STEGMILLER'S SECOND GENERATION CAMARO: 1970-1981

RARITY/PRODUCTION NUMBERS

Desirability, not rarity is what one should be concerned with. Is a second generation Camaro without power steering or power brakes rare? Who cares! Is it desirable? No! I guess my point is don't get hung up on rarity. Look more for something that you like.

How many cars were optioned like yours? There isn't any way to know exactly since such records were not kept. However, you can look at the production figures, interpolate, and make an educated guess. It isn't very accurate since certain combinations of options were more/less likely to be ordered together, but it is the best that can be done.

Let's take a hypothetical example of an 1980 Z28 with T-tops.

  1. Go to the main page and look up the production numbers for your year of Camaro. For our example 152,005 Camaros total and 45,137 Z28s were built in 1980. This means that 45,137/152,005 or 29.7% were Z28.
  2. Scroll down the page to where the options are listed. Look up the production figures for the options you are interested in. Going back to our example again, 24,816 (16.3%) had T-tops.
  3. Interpolate and make your educated guess. How many T-top equipped 1980 Z28s were built? (45,137 Z28)*(0.163 w/T-tops) results in 7369 cars
